This tiny house/garage conversion loft seems to be getting more and more attention.
I often wonder why our culture has decided that living at the edge of one’s income is the norm. It seems that everyone acquires employment and seeks higher positions and higher pay. But with the higher pay comes increased spending. Why do we do this? I suppose this is done for much of history and that is why there are and always have been different classes of wealthy and poor and often nothing in between. You either have money and display that fact or you have no money and suffer because you cannot display wealth. What if everyone spent or gave their surplus income in a way that benefited other people of lesser standing? I suppose the flaw with this is that it would severely injure consumerism because people earn money making things that would no longer be needed. But couldn’t there be other jobs? I imagine this train of thought is what has driven individuals to “live simply.”

And often I think about doing just that. Living comfortably within my income in housing just large enough to suit my needs, but no more. Buy only what I needed to survive with the occasional indulgence to have something new and exciting. This is why I like the idea of tiny houses and nature; it takes us back to the roots of living when having enough food and a healthy family and a enjoying the day to day was just enough. The world could benefit from more selflessness.
